the first thing you need to know about scaries is that you can pretty much bring any kind of supernatural creature you'd like here. the caveat is that there should be some sort of wiki page in existence for your choices. we also welcome you to bring any kind of subset of species that you want! what does this mean? if you want to write a vampire you can bring a vampire that fits any kind of lore from any kind of show, book or movie you'd like so long as it also has it's own wikipage. why? won't that create confusion? we don't see why it would to be honest. in the world of scaries all kinds of things exist. just like superheroes have different abilities, why wouldn't some vampires? we find that it will be fun for characters to utilize different characteristics within these creatures rather than have everyone all follow the same rules. the same goes for werewolves, zombies, witch, wizard, ghosts, demons, angels, aliens and whatever you choose to bring.

the setting of the community is new york city. the supernatural community is an undergound world within the 5 boroughs of the city that has managed to exist for over 100 years thanks to the help of witches and other magic aligned supernatural folk. your character may be able to blend in with the human world or they may own a business or work for a supernatural aligned business. you have the freedom to create anything you'd like here regarding the underground world.

community wise you should know that like every other community we truly aim for this to be an asshole free zone. be kind to people, especially if they're doing something differently from what you would have chosen. this is a space where people can invest in their own characters and other's and encourage people to put their characters out there and try something different for a change. we know every community attempts this but we can't achieve this without committing to it as well.

joining scaries
so you've decided you'd like to come be spooky with us. the first thing you will need is an ic or ooc journal. we are of the opinion like most other communities these days that it doesn't really matter whether it's in or out of character. setting up is in line with what you see as well. you need an in character and an out of character post that are both future dated so that they are pinned to the top of your journal. your out of character post must contain information about your character (name, birthdate, species, occupation, etc). you must also have a blurb that is 200-500 words. you can detail your character's history or their personality or both but just let us know that you're coming in with some sort of basic idea that you can expand on as you develop them. rejections! while we aren't in the business of keeping people out of our community we do ask that you strongly consider using the resources in the application post as a guide of how you should set up. there are plenty of icon, layout and bio code journals you can use to fit in. we do not answer inquiries about rejections, please respect this.

being active at scaries
this community will attempt to balance activity through regular posts to the fp, monthly or bi-weekly plots/events. on top of commenting everything on the fp, we do want people that want to write. we are hoping to see a healthy amount of narratives on top of other kinds of updates. we're not here to shut down any kind of activity so we welcome anything you want to post with open arms. having said that you should be able to post twice a month - anything you want. we hope narrative challenges will inspire but we're all busy adults and sometimes that's not always possible. you will also have 48 hours to intro within the subcommunity. intros can be anything you want so long as they're interactive, they don't necessarily have to follow the traditional format. removals will be based on you meeting the above criteria. we reserve the right to remove anyone that has an out of date flist by a week. if we do suspect a good chunk of people are doa around mid-month we will host activity checks as well so please check the fp frequently.

no wire, discord, etc. here at scaries for all the reasons other communities have banned them. if you're found to be ignoring this rule and using it anyway we will remove you from the community. we want to be an inclusive community but this is our wish. we find it disrespectful when it's broken because we want this community to have everyone on the same playing field. please commit to customs and commenting around the fp just like everyone else.
